Russia Evacuates 175 More Employees from Iran’s Bushehr Plant
According to the Russian Embassy in Armenia, the staff crossed into Armenia through the Nurduz-Agarak border checkpoint and departed on a special flight Monday.
The embassy confirmed that a total of 509 Russian citizens have been repatriated via Armenia since the onset of the US-Israeli conflict against Iran.
Moscow expressed its “deep gratitude” to Armenia for the safe evacuation of state-run Rosatom employees, the statement added.
On Sunday, Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev said most Russians stationed at Bushehr had been successfully evacuated and that “another wave of evacuation is planned for next week.”
The operation follows Russia’s decision last month to withdraw its personnel amid rising regional tensions after the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on February 28. The attacks have killed more than 1,400 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In response, Tehran has conducted drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military forces. Iran has also imposed restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
